Margaret Ann Holloway was born on a farm outside Marion in the spring of 1941, the third of five children, and she liked to say she learned to read before she learned to ride a bicycle — which was true, and which she considered the correct order of things.
She met Ray Holloway at the Marion County Fair in 1961, near the livestock barns, and told her sister that night that she'd met the man she was going to marry. They married two years later and stayed married for fifty-five years, until Ray passed in 2018.

RoseGrandma taught me to drive in the church parking lot when I was fifteen and Dad had given up. She never raised her voice, not once, not even when I took out the trash cans. She just said "again" and we did it again. She said that's how you teach anything. Love you, Grandma.

Leave a memoryWe moved to the street in 2009 and knew nobody. Peggy was on our porch within the hour with a rhubarb pie and a full report on which neighbors were worth knowing. She was eighty-one when she stopped shoveling our walk in the winter, and only because we begged her to. Rest well, Peggy. Two o'clock is very quiet now.
